As of today perfume has completely wrapped itself around the entire globe with its hypnotic warm, cozy and enchanting aromas. It has become a multi-billion dollar industry, with this large number of growth the perfume manufacturers have completely changed the scientific process of perfume making. History of perfume making. In ancient times perfume manufacturers were very earthbound as they could not generate synthetic smells. All the perfumes created came from fragrant plants, flowers, spices eg: ⦁ Rose ⦁ Jasmine ⦁ Cinnamon ⦁ Wood ⦁ Seeds And much other earthly material. They were also called essential oils and were not only used for cosmetic purposes but also for many other religious and commercial purposes such as, the religious ceremonies would add these oils to the water to make the ceremony more enchanting, kings and queens would have these oils mixed with water and burned in slow flame to enrich the smell of their palaces. They were also used as an ointment for the body and many more reasons. But due to limited resources and not being able to generate smells synthetically there were very few perfume options available if compared to today. Perfume making industry today. As of today, the perfume manufacturing industry makes around 80 billion us dollars around the world. And has a CRAG of almost 4%. How did this little invention of the ancient civilization become so crucial and important? well as perfume evolved into the standard grooming habits of humans , it not only became a habit but more of a statement. From incense to burn in your home to essential oils perfumes and take the world by awe. How perfume is made? ⦁ Gathering of ingredients: Before starting the manufacturing process, all the ingredients required to make the fragrance should be brought to gather to the manufacturing center. ⦁ Oil extractions: All the natural ingredients must have their oils extracted from them. There are several methods of doing this. 1. Steam distillation. 2. Solvent extraction. 3. Enfleurage. 4. Maceration. 5. Expression. ⦁ Blending all the ingredients. Once all the ingredients are put together and essential oils have been extracted from and collected. They need to go through the blending process where the essential oils mix gracefully with the chosen ingredients ⦁ Fun fact The ratio or alcohol to scent will determine the perfume's strength and longevity. The more the essential oil is the more expensive and strong the fragrance will be. ⦁ The aging process To create more refined and high-quality scents, perfume manufacturers often age their perfumes. sometimes for months and maybe years. This allows all the different scents, fragrance and notes to blend seamlessly and creates the body as well as the base notes for the scent. ⦁ Lastly the quality control This is the most important aspect of the perfume manufacturing industry. This will ensure the safety of the product, whether or not they are harmful for use. And do they contain products that are banned from some countries? This is the only way to protect the brand's reputation and ensure the safety of the customers and the product. Sometimes natural ingredients can be very hard to find or harvest such as rare flowers, animal oils, etc. This is where synthetic perfumes are helpful as they have allowed the perfume manufacturers to create their desired scents very easily and with less quality control. The future As we know perfumes have been with us since ancient times and have not died with time rather become a very crucial part of our daily lives. This means that it is here to stay and will not be going anytime soon just like the scent of a strong perfume. This industry will only grow and keep evolving. Since the innovation of synthetic perfumes it has increased the production rate of the perfume manufacturers and made the process easier and cheaper to buy perfumes. You may have never thought that such a small part of your daily grooming routine requires such big and complex steps in order to be put inside that tiny bottle of yours.
